Wallace & Gromit Come to Zeum

Arts & Tech Museum Invites Kids To Learn Clay Animation
From The Team Behind Oscar® Nominee
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit on Saturday, February 11

3 February 2006—SAN FRANCISCO, CA: Zeum — San Francisco’s innovative arts and technology museum for youth — invites kids and families for a unique behind-the-scenes peek at the making of Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, the Academy Award®-nominated clay animated film premiering on DVD February 7th from DreamWorks Home Entertainment.

The special one-day-only event on Saturday, February 11 will begin with a presentation in the
Zeum Theater with guest Teresa Drilling, Emmy® winner** and key animator from Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. After a screening of newly created documentary featurettes from the Were-Rabbit DVD, Teresa will answer questions from the audience, and share her experiences working on the Oscar® nominated film.

In the afternoon, Teresa and Zeum staff will show the first 100 lucky registrants how to build their own Were-Rabbit bunnies from clay, which they can bring to life in their own short films in Zeum's Animators Studio.

Throughout the day Zeum will also display actual sets and characters from the movie Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, including Wallace & Gromit, along with Victor Quartermaine, Philip and Hutch. Zeum is one of three children’s museums in the U.S. chosen to host Wallace & Gromit events this month in celebration of the DVD release. Similar events are being held at the Children's Museum of Manhattan and the Chicago Children's Museum.

Zeum’s ongoing animation program allows children of all ages to make their own short movies, using the same stop-motion animation technique used in Wallace & Gromit films. Visitors to Zeum’s popular Animators Studio begin by sculpting their own characters, and then choosing a stage set where they use a camera and computer to bring their characters to life with stop-motion animation. When they’re done, visitors can take their animated movies home with them on DVD. The process gives children a first-hand understanding of the techniques used to create some of their favorite films, and allows them to express their own ideas creatively.

The Wallace & Gromit event on February 11 is part of an ongoing series of weekend workshops at Zeum — all of which give children an opportunity to work alongside professionals from various arts, media and technology fields to create a unique product they can take home. Past topics have included robotics, movie poster design, comic strip illustration, DJ arts, and more.

Voted “Best Place for Kids” by SF Weekly for two consecutive years, Zeum offers exciting hands-on experiences like clay animation, digital art, sound and video production, and more, for kids and families of all ages.
