World Savvy Presents: The 2007-2008 Global Youth Media & Arts Festival Wednesday, 12/5 - Sunday, 2/3 - Extended by one week! The Global Youth Media and Arts Festival celebrates a six-month collaboration between World Savvy and 22 of the Bay Area's premiere media and arts organizations. In 2007, World Savvy partnered with 300 youth and 45 teachers to explore "Power in a Global Society" in their local communities and forge global connections. Youth attended World Savvy workshops on topics such as social revolutions, gender, censorship, ecological footprints, ableism, citizenship and self power. They took related fieldtrips to art galleries, film screenings, and met and worked with artists who are directly addressing issues of power. Through discussion, experience and creative expression, youth formed and voiced personal perspectives through new works of art and media. Related Activities PANEL DISCUSSION :Technology and Power in Global Society How does the power of technology affect youth participation as citizens today? January 15, 2008 @ 6-8pm (Zeum Theater) Co-hosted by Zeum There is no question that technology has transformed the way we live our lives, and how we are able to interact, organize, and take action in society. This panel will explore the empowering and disempowering aspects of technology in our community and global society. In particular, panelists will examine the possibilities of how technology may lower the barriers for civic participation, particularly for youth, in the 21st Century. The Global Youth Media & Arts Festival Performance Showcase Friday, January 18 @ 6-8pm (Zeum Theater) Saturday, January 19 @ 6-8pm (Zeum Theater) Co-hosted by Zeum This powerful showcase will feature live performances by participating Bay Area Youth in the Global Youth Media & Arts Festival on the theme of Power in a Global Society This is the performance portion of the 2007-08 exhibition. Global Youth Media & Arts Festival Workshops @ Zeum For January: Get on Stage Without a Page: Wield Your Creative Power in this Improv Workshop! A tandem arts workshop for the Global Youth Media & Arts Festival Saturday, January 19 @ 2pm Saturday, January 26 @ 12pm Recommended for ages 8 & up Join visiting artist, Noah Martin, in this improvisational extravaganza! Noah worked with teen artists featured in the Media and Art Project (MAP) Exhibition currently displayed in our Spotlight on Youth Art in the Spiral Gallery. Just as teen artists explored the theme, "Power in a Global Society," you'll get the chance to discover your creative power through the art of improvisation. This one will be so much fun, your cheeks will be sore from all the smiling!
